Heated Parking

Heated Parking at the Crossings is Secure, Deeded and Attached.

Parking is one of the most important aspects of choosing a condo in downtown Minneapolis.  But not all parking spots are created equal.  If you are in the market for a condo in downtown Minneapolis, make sure you ask the right questions about the parking spot.

1. Deeded Parking vs. Assigned Parking.

Many condo units “come with” a parking spot, but that spot may not be “yours”  it may belong to the condominium association and may only be assigned to you.  Some associations own their parking lots and simply allow all condo-owners to rent a parking spot.  This arrangement may be the cheapest up front, but it quickly becomes the most expensive in the long term.  The best arrangement for a condominium owner is to actually own their parking spot.  At The Crossings, parking spots are individually owned.  An parking spot at The Crossings is a separate legal property and the unit owner holds the deed.

2. Secure Garage

It is important to consider who has access to a condo’s parking lot.  Is the lot also a public lot?  Can someone just walk down the ramp into the lot?  Can people who don’t live in the condominium rent parking spots in the parking lot?  Can people be ‘buzzed in’ ?

Only residents and employees at The Crossings may enter the garage.  Parking spaces may not be rented to the general public.  Entering the building from the attached underground garage requires an electronic key to one of the four garage elevator lobbies (pictured below).  The front desk attendant periodically patrols the parking lot to make sure that everything is in order.

There are four garage elevator lobbies, one on each garage level. Only  residents and employees may enter using their key FOB.

3. Heated Garage

Covered parking protects your car from the rain, snow and sun, but your car will still get bitterly cold in the winter, and very hot in the summer.  Just because a garage is underground does not mean that it is climate controlled.  Some garages in downtown Minneapolis go down several levels, but they still get very very cold. At The Crossings, our parking garage stays between 65 and 85 degrees year round.  No more scraping, brushing or sweating.

4. Guest Parking

When you live at the center of the city, you are going to have lots of guests.   And with common areas and amenities that rival the nicer downtown hotels, your out-of-town friends and family will find reasons to spend the night.  The Crossings owns seven parking spaces which are used for employees of The Crossings and the guests of residents.  You can reserve these parking spaces for your guests as needed by calling the front desk.  Other buildings may also have guest parking spaces, but without a 24/7 front desk attendant to coordinate them, they would not be available when needed.  It is true that parking downtown can be more difficult than parking in the suburbs, but remember, parking is a problem of popularity!

When residents leave for the weekend, they often notify the front desk that their spot will be available for use as a guest parking spot.

5. Carts

Maybe you’ve just bought a case of wine at Surdyk’s or a honey-glazed ham at the nearby Whole Foods, but now you need to get it from the trunk of your car to your kitchen.  The Crossings maintains a fleet of carts: shopping carts for smaller items, and larger green carts (pictured below) for bulky items.  Carts are kept on every level and are available for use 24 hours a day.  So go ahead, buy that 20-pound Thanksgiving turkey!

6. Car-wash Station

It might be -10 F outside, but it is a comfortable 70F at the Car Wash station located on ‘Level D’ which is four levels below ground.  At The Crossings you can wash your car any time of the day or night.  The car-wash station is equipped with a long hose and variable-spray nozzle with enough water pressure to get your car cleaned quickly.   The area is well-lit and equipped with a power outlet where you can plug in your vacuum cleaner.

7. Doors

Garage doors might seem a silly thing to highlight, but remember that you are going to use them frequently.  There is a separate entrance lane and exit lane with locked doors that automatically unlock and open for cars equipped with a secure transmitter.  This is an important distinction.  You probably don’t want to have to roll down your window and lean out every time you enter an exit the garage.  Residents at The Crossings can avoid this slow and uncomfortable process by installing the small wireless transmitter in their car.

The Garage doors at The Crossings are bi-folding doors that open and close quickly, so you don’t have to wait for a door to scroll all the way up and down.  Getting into and out-of the garage is fast!  The Crossing’s parking lot has a dedicated ramp to the underground parking garage, the ramp is in-set far off of Washington Ave which makes entry and exit much easier and safer.

8. Maintenance

All four garage levels are The Crossings are professionally cleaned every year.  The parking lines and walls are re-painted as needed and the infrastructure of the garage is inspected and repaired when necessary.

9. Bicycle Racks

The Crossings parking ramp has many bicycle racks for your bicycle.  Keep your bike safe and dry!
